Measures for the recycling of plastic waste
Faced with the pollution of plastic waste, countries around the world have taken different measures from the government to the public to deal with the crisis. In recent mouths, countries have introduced policies to limited the recycling and use of plastic waste.
The French government trying to introduce a punishment system that will force merchant stories to abandon the use of “non-renewable plastic” to package goods. Brune Poirson, the Minister of Ecological Transformation told the JDD that the system would increase the cost of using non-recycled plastic packaging for consumer products. The cost of using recycled plastic packaging products would be reduced 10%, while the cost of products using non-recycled plastic packaging can be increased by 10%.
Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory of Australia, will restrict the use of disposable plastic products and helium balloons from January 1, 2019 to reduce environmental pollution. Disposable plastic products, including cups, lunch boxes, cutlery and straws, will be banned from activities organized by the Darwin City Council and market stalls within the parliamentary area. At the same time, helium balloons are not allowed to be released in the parliamentary jurisdiction. According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Darwin’s weekend market produces a large number of plastic products in the garbage. There are more than 1,000 disposable plastic cups and 33.34 kilograms of lunch boxes discarded on the weekend.
Since the implementation of the mandatory charging policy for plastic bags in major supermarkets in the UK in 2015, the consumption of plastic bags has dropped by 86%. The British government also announced plans to promote a new “plastic limit order” in England to completely ban the sale of disposable plastic products such as plastic straws, plastic drink stir bars and cotton swabs with plastic rods. In addition, the UK is also trying to emulate the introduction of a bottle deposit system in other European countries with a view to increasing the recycling rate of plastic bottles.
The Japan Central Environmental Review Council held a circular-type social group meeting to discuss the “plastic resource recycling strategy” aimed at drastically reducing plastic waste, which is a cause of international concern, such as marine pollution. The newly established small committee will study specific measures and numerical targets, and will summarize the draft report within the shortest year.
